In a recruitment Centre, young women undergo training to become domestic workers. They learn how to use a microwave, how to take care of an infant and how to speak their future employers language. In order to make money to provide for their families, every month approximately 35000 Indonesian women get on a plane to work abroad. However, this documentary film shows how the dream for a brighter future sometimes turns into a nightmare: under brutal conditions, domestic workers...
A very fast packing worker in Indonesia (video is not mine)
https://democracynow.org - A new investigation by the Guardian has revealed workplace abuse, grueling production targets and deplorably low pay at an Indonesian factory that makes clothing for Ivanka Trump’s clothing label. Many of the female workers at the factory in West Java say the pay is so low, they live in constant debt and can’t afford to live with their own children. In June, Democracy Now! spoke with the journalist who broke the story, Krithika Varagur, when she joined us from Indonesia to describe what she uncovered. When Aini's husband passed away, she received a sum of money from an insurance plan they owned. She used the money to set up a small shop that would provide her some income in her old age. In Indonesia, 59 million people, or 54 percent of workers, are working in the informal sector. On average, they earn 42 percent less income and are unlikely to receive worker benefits.
Maid in Malaysia (2006 ): In a shocking abuse of work place rights, the Malaysian government dictates that Indonesian maids should not, and will not be entitled to a day off work, which is the tip of the iceberg. An Indonesian Silver worker operating his "blow torch" in the very basic factory where he works. No safety in these places and no magnification to assist in the finite work they are doing. They turn out some nice items as displayed in the adjoining showrooms. These places are common in the Yogjakarta region.
Indonesian officials say a British oil worker who was kidnapped on Tuesday has been found safe. Engineer Malcolm Primrose was returning from an inspection of a drilling rig on the north Sumatran province of Aceh when he and his driver were confronted by unidentified armed men. They fired a warning shot into the air, forcing his driver to stop. The men tied up the driver before forcing the 61-year-old drilling supervisor into their vehicle and fleeing the scene. The driver managed to free himself and contact police. Indonesian authorities say Primrose, found early Thursday, is in good health. -------------------------------------------------------- TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news. Sugardi has worked in Hong Kong for 18 years. When I spoke to her I thought we finally had a success story on our hands, a woman who has worked with two employers in Hong Kong, been here for nearly two decades and has been able to build a life for her family back home. She was chirpy and spoke at length about how she is now planning to go home, even though the family she works for her feels like home too. Then I asked her if she has worked elsewhere, before the on camera interview she had mentioned working in saudi, we did not ask her details of the work in Saudi. Her story is a true "stories beyond borders story", abuse is not limited to a certain race, culture or religion, therefore we should never allow it to be justified in those names. Fortunately traffic is dense enough to slow it down. Imagine what could happen at full speeds and a driver missing these cones.toll
